Mission Statement

Die Produzent*innen is an association of Austrian companies that produce films, series and innovative formats for cinema, TV and streaming platforms, aimed at national and international audiences. In recent years, our films have reached hundreds of thousands of viewers in cinemas, on TV and online in Austria and around the world; they have been screened at hundreds of festivals (including Cannes, Berlin and Venice) and have won numerous awards.

We stand for creativity, diversity, equality, inclusion, dialogue, respect and fairness, and a work culture that reflects these values, as well as for working conditions that are in harmony with the needs and development opportunities of filmmakers. We are committed to transparency and promote sustainable solutions for our industry as a whole – moving beyond a narrow focus on growth and market share, which limits the breadth of cinematic creation.

Film is a cultural asset, a vital part of our society’s cultural memory and an essential resource for a socio-political discourse that seeks to engage with ethical, social and aesthetic issues. When we can draw on a wealth of stories and perspectives, the quality of discourse and experience is enhanced. We therefore need many Austrian films.

Film is an economic factor and creates jobs across all sectors of the production and distribution chain, regardless of company size or structure, multiplied by the number of projects. We therefore need many Austrian productions.

Film is a window to the world. Our audience is global. Our films are screened at film festivals all over the world and have won numerous awards. They play a crucial role in shaping a nuanced international perception of Austria. We therefore need many Austrian films.

In Austria – as in most European countries – film production is only possible with the support of funding grants. Our goal is to ensure that Austrian film funding, in the sense of a cultural mandate, continues to secure the conditions for a diverse production landscape in the future, and to ensure that politicians provide sufficient funding for this. We advocate for fair access to the Austrian funding system, to upholding the quality of this system, and for its expansion where it makes sense in order to meet the needs of different genres and new formats.

We promote the broad and transparent access to tenders and commissions for series, television films and other TV formats. Audience behaviour is changing dramatically in this field, and we are able to respond quickly: both in development and in production. We are committed to active collaboration with broadcasters on an equal footing.

We have championed the expansion of funding opportunities through a film incentive model; we welcome the Green Producing initiative and advocate for sustainable solutions that are affordable and feasible for smaller production structures too.

We are committed to ensuring that the diversity of Austrian cinema is appropriately represented in Austrian cinemas and internationally, and that, in the interests of this diversity, cinemas and other forms of distribution are supported.

We actively represent the aims and interests of our members within the industry and in the political arena.
